Benefits of cataract extraction

If the doctor sets you a diagnosis “cataract” – do not delay. The surgery done in time is less traumatic, eye heals quicker and the vision is almost completely restored.

Patients who do not postpone the operation, get the best results. Postponing surgery means that cataract will become more mature and will be harder to remove. In addition, patients who postpone operations have complications more often. Frequently patients, who have long been living with the diagnosis of cataract, receive concomitant diseases. Some of them, such as, glaucoma can lead to complete loss of vision.

Clinics “Laser Plus” have over nine years of successfully conducted cataract removal surgeries. Hundreds of people each year experience the benefits of such operation:

• Absolutely painless and safe procedure
• Outpatient operation for 15 minutes
• After the operation you can immediately return to your usual work
• Vision begins to recover immediately after surgery

There are no age contraindications for replacing the lens
, the general anesthesia is not used – in our clinics we use special eye drops which safely work as anesthetic. During 15 minutes operation hundreds of people felt only soft touches of the doctor’s hands and saw a bright light.

After surgery experienced doctors will closely monitor the process of healing. You will get a set of necessary drugs, go through all necessary control examinations and receive consultations concerning any questions about postoperative care.

The very next day after surgery you will return to work, to your daily worries and joys. In a week you will not even remember that once in your eye there “lived” and constantly grew a cataract.

Laser surgery will let you see the faces of your loved ones and the colors of life with your own eyes!

Cataract and it’s diagnosis

A cataract is a clouding, which is located between the front and rear segments of eye. Early in the development of age-related cataract the power of the lens may be increased, causing near-sightedness (myopia), and the gradual yellowing and opacification of the lens may reduce the perception of blue colours. Cataracts typically progress slowly to cause vision loss and are potentially blinding if untreated. The condition usually affects both the eyes, but almost always one eye is affected earlier than the other.

Over the past decade cataracts have become “younger” – the average age in which the disease is diagnosed is 45 years. Cataract develops for a variety of reasons, including ecology, our way of life, bad habits, unhealthy diet etc. – it is impossible to name everything. The disease can develop under the influence of external factors or secondary effects of some diseases, including diabetes.

Diagnosis of cataracts

When a cataract just begins, only a small part of lens is clouded. You may not notice changes in your vision. Typically, cataract “grows” slowly and gradually deteriorates vision. Over time a cataract becomes larger and increases in size. It becomes more opaque, a loss of visual acuity is noted. The image is fuzzy and grayish.

The most common symptoms of cataracts include:

• Blurred or fuzzy image
• Colors vision is less vivid
• Lamps, lighting and sunlight may seem too bright. A ‘halo’ is observed around the source of light
• A doubled image in an eye
• Frequent changes of glasses prescription

Integrated diagnostic examination of the eye is the first and most important step for further treatment of cataract. With equipment from leading companies of the world and European experience of doctors from clinic “LASER PLUS” can detect cataract on early stage and start the treatment before the disease has influenced eye functions.

In clinic “LASER PLUS” we measure visual acuity and refraction on the narrowed and dilated pupils of each patient. With the help of non-contact tonometer the data on intraocular pressure is received, if necessary, pressure is measured using Maklakov tonometer. To confirm the diagnosis and detect the degree of cataract progression the field of vision is explored and the strength of artificial lens is measured and calculated. The eye is also examined with the help of ultrasound.

Using the slitlamp doctor assesses the state of the cornea, the presence of scars, lens cloudings and others. All patients undergo examination of retina, including its most distant parts when the pupils are maximally dilated. This helps to detect retinal dystrophy, retinal tears, retinal detachment, i.e. eye pathology in the retina, which is not evident clinically, but requires mandatory treatment. If necessary, the amount of researches will be expanded.

Such a thorough ophthalmologic examination lasts over two hours. Apart from apparatus and computer methods of examination you will get the complete consultation on disease, together with the doctor identify ways to overcome the problem, discuss the benefits and risks of surgical intervention and projected results of operation, if it will be necessary.
